By contracting taxonomic skills and identification services from FlyEvidence, it enables ecological surveys to accept contracts for taxa that may not have previously been considered due to lack of expertise. This directly broadens the scope of ecological assessment.
Furthermore, FlyEvidence can assist in reducing the burden of bulk samples that are often the result of survey work, especially where knowledge is peripheral to the staff employed for sorting.
Through the Omni digital photo-microscope that FlyEvidence uses, we provide high quality images for reports, advertising, and species catalogues (these help train para-taxonomists in the skills needed to process bulk samples).

An overhead of the £50 per hour covers the core services of fieldwork, research and report writing, on top of which one of the following sample-processing charges apply:
Option 1: Per specimen rate
The simplest rate FlyEvidence can offer is for a known number of specimens. Through prior experience this is set at £3 per specimen.
This option most suits small projects with relatively few specimens (approx. < 50), where a perception of the number of species is known by prior sorting. It is an ideal rate for student dissertation work where species require confirmation, but is nonetheless also available to larger ecological surveys and research projects where a degree of sorting can be undertaken prior to contracting Flyevidence.
It becomes much more complicated where bulk samples are presented of an unknown number of specimens. FlyEvidence has developed two options for dealing with bulk samples created during survey work: per sample or per specimen.
An overhead of the £50 per hour covers the core services of fieldwork, research and report writing, on top of which one of the following sample-processing charges apply:
Option 2: Per sample rate
Per species (or taxon) encountered £50
Plus Per sample £10
This option most suits large ecological surveys, with mixed sample tubes containing an unknown number of species. It is preferable to 'clean' the samples prior to contracting FlyEvidence, so that all vegetative materials and debris are removed leaving only the taxa requiring analysis in the sample. This saves FlyEvidence time and ultimately costs less per contract.
Option 3: Per taxon rate
Per species (or taxon) encountered £10
Plus Per specimen identified £5
Co-Authorship in publications arising from the research supported by our contracts are welcome, but is optional and at the discretion of the principle investigator.
Acknowledgement of FlyEvidence is, however, required in all publications resulting from contracted services please.
